Filling out surveys in your spare time is a pretty easy way to make money during your lunch break, between commercials when watching your favorite TV show, or when you have time to kill.
There are definitely paid survey sites out there that are just scams. They ask you to pay a $50 membership fee and promise that you can make the money back as soon as you join. I’m not say that this isn’t possible, but it is rare and a big stretch of the truth. Particularly if you are outside of the United States, some of the sites that have a membership fee only have surveys available to US citizens.
There are a a few good apples though. Unfortunately the long list of scam sites has made it seem that the entire industry is bad. But if you can pick out the good online survey sites that really do pay for your opinion, then you really can make some money.
Now I don’t suggest trying to make this your ultimate business model. It can help you make a few dollars here and there, but ultimately you earn as much as you work. That’s a problem because it is hard to scale a business like that. There is no way I can see that you can automate this process so you are making money unless you involve your time.
But for now… to make some money here and there, there’s nothing wrong with filling out surveys online to make some money. But you have to find the right program — and preferably one that doesn’t charge a membership fee. There should be no reason why a survey network has to charge you. After all, they supposedly make their money from the companies that hire them to find survey takers. If they’re charging you, then they probably aren’t making much money from companies hiring them, which means there probably won’t be much opportunity for you to fill out these questionnaires.
The one I’ve heard the best feedback on is completely free. I recommend signing up with an alternate email address, because you get a lot of survey offers sent to your mailbox. Either set a filter in Gmail to have these emails sent to a separate folder, or get a new email address all together just for surveys. That will help you stay organized.
